Emilie Marie "Emma" Benter, the daughter of Dierich Benter and Fridarick Shorlotte Elizab. Knollenberg, was born on Friday, 8 October 1858 in Garnavilla, Iowa and was baptized on Saturday, 30 October 1858. She died at the age of 65 on Monday, 28 April 1924 in Visalia, California. She was buried in Visalia, California.

Their children were:

In June 1900, John and Emma Brown lived in Rio Grande County, Colorado, where they rented a home. John was a carpenter, and had been unemployeed for the past three months. They had been married for fifteen years at that time.

We had originally listed Arthur W. Brown's parents as William Brown and Mary M. "Sella" Summers, based on RLB's memory that AWB was born on 1 July 1888 in Kokomo, Indiana, and the fact that they had a son on that date in Jerome, which is in the same county.

According to Robert L. Brown, the oldest boy--probably named Charles--died at around 18-20 years old in Alamosa. It would appear that this was the second son, Guy, whom we have therefore listed as dying in about 1910.

Alice and Pete lived in Split Log, MO, near Neosha, MO.
